What Lakes Are Located in Grattan Township?

There are approximately 24 bodies of water in Grattan Township. Many are small lakes or ponds, but six are substantial enough to take particular interest in. Nine of the most prominent lakes in Grattan Township feed into the Flat River through Seely’s Creek.

Murray’s Lake

The largest of them all, this lake is divided nearly in two by a long strip of land. The lake covers 320 acres and has two boat launches. This lake has year-round fishing, and many events occur on the shores. The main events are:

Crooked Lake

Half a mile long and just as wide, this lake covers about 80 acres. This is another one of Grattan Township lakes that feed into Flat River through Seely’s Creek.

Slayton Lake

Another long, narrow lake in Grattan Township that is big enough to be noticed.

Musk-Rat Lake

This one-and-a-half-mile long lake is a quarter mile wide and covers 230 acres. This lake is also fully stocked with fish.

Pine Island Lake

One and a quarter mile long, three-eighths of a mile wide, this is the most beautiful lake in Grattan Township. Pine Island is at the center of this lake, and onlookers can only describe the scenery as enchanted, as though from a dream.

Seely’s Creek

A little stream that supplies enough water power to run three grist mills and one sawmill. This river runs through Pine Island Lake, Musk-Rat Lake, and Wolf Lake, then empties into Flat River located in Smyrna, Ionia County.
