Nowadays it seems like there are new Airbnb listings popping up literally everywhere! You will see some amazing properties with all the amenities (treehouses, indoor slides, castles, etc…) that easily market themselves, but do not let that discourage you.
Most of us do not have those endless budgets, so the main question you need to ask yourself is “How do I make my property stand out?”. One of the things you can control is your design elements.
Think about what type of property you have bought or are interested in purchasing. Where is it located? A clean and modern city rental or is it located near the mountains?
Who is your target market? Families, bachelorette parties or couples? These questions are just a couple that can help direct the path you take to style your rental overall and by researching your market, you have the opportunity to do something very different than your direct competition.
One of the coolest aspects of an Airbnb is allowing someone to stay at a place that is so different from their own home. Not only are they going on vacation, but you are giving them the space to truly escape from their everyday life.
This means you have some serious creative freedom when it comes to styling the property and one of those design elements is wallpaper.
Things to consider when picking wallpaper for your property
Wallpaper can drastically transform an entire space from bland to eye-popping and can help you achieve that epic cover photo for your Airbnb listing that immediately captures your future guests and makes them think that they just have to see that place in person.
The goal you need to keep in mind is that you want your guests to be so excited to post on Facebook or Instagram about the awesome AirBNB they escaped to for their weekend getaway or the family photos they will share from their annual summer vacation in your property!
Types of Wallpaper
I am sure you are familiar with the old-school type of wallpaper – it usually comes in rolls and requires a separate adhesive and usually causes a lot of headaches, unless, of course, you happen to be an expert when it comes to applying it.
If that is the case, there are so many traditional wallpaper options – a linen texture or grasscloth wallpaper could really elevate your high-end beach vacation rental!
Fortunately, for all of us today – they have so many more options when it comes to wallpaper and even wall decals in general. The options are truly incredible – you can find peel and stick wallpaper in different textures, and a wide array of colors and patterns to fit any type of design style you can think of!
Ease of application and removal
In my opinion, one of the reasons products like these are so enticing is the ease of application. Most of these products are simply peel and stick. With the help of a few basic tools like a level, scissors, and a tape measure, anyone can figure out how to install this product.
Even though I keep referencing “wallpaper”, the other really neat thing about these types of products is that they can be installed as a kitchen backsplash or on furniture that you are also trying to spruce up.
Sometimes, when purchasing a property you are trying to get it up and running as fast as possible. You may not have the time to try and find a tile installer or a painter to tackle those projects.
This also gives you the ability to easily install and modernize the space faster and my guess is (especially depending on where you are located) cheaper!
Another aspect of AirBNBs – any small business really, is that you constantly have to stay competitive and always be willing to make your properties the best they can be at all times. Styles and design change
over time – what was popular last year may not be this year. Whenever I design our properties, I typically will only splurge on large items or pieces that I consider to be timeless.
I love purchasing the trendy accent options that are usually less expensive because then I do not feel so bad when I have to replace or change the style at some point. The same concept applies to wallpaper.
One of the reasons I think a lot of owners may avoid it is that it used to seem so permanent. To remove these products, all you have to do is just peel it right off, meaning you can change your design whenever the mood strikes or if you learn that your ideal guest is not exactly what you were targeting originally.
It is so important in the Airbnb world to constantly be able to pivot and these peel-and-stick wallpaper products allow you to do just that!
